Los Angeles international airport (LAX) is set to see a number of improvements over the coming years as a result of a new agreement with Westfield Concession Management.
A range of food, beverage and retail facilities will open as part of the deal, which is set to generate revenue of $331.1m (£212.9m) for Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA) over the next 17 years.
Refurbishments and improvements will focus on four areas, including the airport"s two international flight terminals and the Theme Building.
Gina Marie Lindsey, executive director of LAWA, said the company is pursuing a $4.11bn modernisation programme at LAX with the aim of enhancing customer service, safety and security at "one of the most significant international gateways in the world".
She also revealed that one of the main aims of the project is to create a "cohesive, memorable and high-quality" dining and shopping experience providing a "sense of place" that reflects the Los Angeles region.
LAX is served by major international carriers including British Airways, Virgin Atlantic, US Airways and Delta Airlines.
