Many Brits planning holidays to escape Olympics fever by Cheap Flights Booker UK
The prospect of the Olympic Games has led to many Britons planning holidays this summer to escape London 2012 fever, according to research commissioned by Abta, the travel industry association.
Some 12% of Britons surveyed said they are intending to go overseas specifically to avoid the sporting event, while 9% will be taking a trip to a quiet location in the UK.
The older generations appear to be the most eager to get some distance from the Games, with 22% of over-65s and 18% of 55 to 64-year-olds set to take a foreign holiday during the Olympics period of 27 July to 12 August.
However, Abta"s survey also found that approximately 2.5m people will be taking time off work to attend events associated with the Games in London and around the UK, while a further 5m are expected to arrange days off to enjoy the sporting spectacles on television at home.
Victoria Bacon, head of communications for the industry association, noted that hundreds of thousands of Britons, particularly young people, will be taking a break from work to enjoy the Olympics.
"However, for those who don"t love sports or want to escape the crowds, going abroad will provide a welcome alternative," she added.
