Menorca"s tourism authorities are set to embark on an initiative this year to highlight the diversity and range of the destination.

Local tourism minister Lazaro Criado said the Balearic island is already regarded as the "perfect" place for a family holiday owing to its safety, scenic beaches and "stunning" natural attractions.

Mr Criado acknowledged the importance of these factors but stressed that the local travel industry has ambitions to broaden its appeal.

"We … want to showcase the diverse experiences available on the island and the romantic qualities of its setting," he said.

"Menorca is a fantastic destination for everyone - we just need to spread the word."

Holidaymakers looking for outdoor adventures on their next trip can choose from a range of activities on the Spanish island, such as kayaking, surfing, cycling, walking and riding horses along a 300-year-old bridle path called Cami de Cavalls.

Mr Criado also noted that Menorca is just a two-hour flight away from the UK, with regular services available with carriers such as British Airways, Iberia and KLM.
