Travellers catching flights with Delta Air Lines this year will notice a number of improvements in both business and economy class cabins on the carrier"s Boeing 747-400 aircraft.

Each 747 in the fleet will boast 48 BusinessElite flat-bed seats by the time the renovation project is complete in October 2012, with amenities including direct aisle access, power outlets, USB ports and a personal LED reading lamp.

Passengers will also be able to use a widescreen video monitor and an entertainment system comprising more than 300 films, 88 hours of television programmes and over 5,000 digital music tracks.

Like the rest of Delta"s international fleet, the 747-400s will also be installed with the Economy Comfort product, providing four additional inches of leg room, 50% more recline space, priority boarding and complimentary spirits throughout the flight.

The service is similar to premium economy options available with the airline"s joint-venture partners Air France-KLM and Alitalia.

Commenting on the project, which will see the improved aircraft launched on routes across the Pacific and Atlantic throughout 2012, Delta spokesman Glen Hauenstein said: "These upgrades will make the 747 the premier aircraft in our international fleet and customers will immediately notice the improved experience."
