PwC: Olympic Games to result in record year for UK hotels by Cheap Flights Booker UK
Professional services firm PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) has predicted that the Olympic Games will make 2012 a record year for UK hotels.
The summer event is expected to boost occupancy by almost 1.2% in London, taking rates to nearly 84% overall.
UK regions are also set to welcome more visitors as a result of the Games, with hotel occupancy levels outside the capital projected to climb by 0.9% to 72%.
These rates would be the highest in London since the 1970s and the highest ever in the regions.
PwC also predicted that the Olympics will boost income for hoteliers, with revenue per available room in London expected to grow by 2.8%.
Robert Milburn, the firm"s hospitality and leisure leader, said the sporting event and the Queen"s Diamond Jubilee will attract international attention to England"s capital city this summer.
He added: "Without the boost to Q3 from the Games, London hotels would have been looking at a poor year with the impact of the harder trading environment being felt more keenly."
Mr Milburn also noted that operators differ over the city"s post-Games prospects, with some optimistic about a boost in the destination"s profile and others concerned about a dip in travel.
