Record Breaking UK Performance For Lufthansa
Record-breaking UK performance for Lufthansa by Cheap Flights Booker UK
Lufthansa has announced that 2011 was a record year for the airline in the UK and Ireland, with more passengers carried to and from the region than ever before.
More than 4.15m travellers caught flights to and from the UK and Ireland with Germany"s largest carrier last year, marking an increase of almost 12% from 2010.
Scotland saw a particularly strong increase in passenger numbers, largely as a result of a new route linking Aberdeen to Frankfurt.
Lufthansa"s services to and from Dublin and Birmingham also performed well, with these destinations posting year-on-year traffic increases of 19.5% and 18.7% respectively.
Christian Schindler, the airline"s general manager in the UK and Ireland, said the strong figures prove that most travellers still value the extra provisions and amenities they receive from a full-service carrier.
He added: "We have reaffirmed our commitment to the UK and Ireland by starting the new service from Aberdeen to Frankfurt and announcing new services to Berlin from both Birmingham and Manchester."
The additional flights to Berlin are part of a major investment in the German capital"s new Brandenburg airport, which is due to open in June this year.
