Young People Prefer Word Of Mouth To Social Media For Travel Tips
Young people "prefer word-of-mouth to social media for travel tips" by Cheap Flights Booker UK
Travellers aged between 18 and 35 years would rather rely on word-of-mouth recommendations than social media when planning trips, according to a new survey.
The poll - which was carried out by the TNT Travel Show ahead of its free expo at Earls Court in London on 3 March - found that 73% of young backpackers favour word-of-mouth advice when arranging their overseas adventures.
Only 14% of respondents said they prefer to use social media for inspiration, while 13% use online blogs.
The camera was named the most important gadget for young travellers, with 90% saying they cannot do without one.
A large majority (85%) of BlackBerry owners and two-thirds (68%) of iPhone users said they would leave their devices at home before going away.
Kevin Ellis, chief executive of the TNT Travel Show, said the survey results show that the youth market still "loves human contact" despite the ever-growing importance of the internet and handheld devices.
"[Young people] believe it"s simply not smart to spend your travel time gazing at a smartphone, and when it comes to taking advice, they"re clearly saying we"re "only human" thanks!" he added.
