EasyJet celebrates launch of Southend airport by Cheap Flights Booker UK

EasyJet this week celebrated the launch of the first new airport in south-east England for decades with the introduction of flights to Barcelona from London Southend.

The airline said the new base will provide a fast and convenient way for travellers to fly from the region.

Southend airport"s terminal, which was officially opened by secretary of state for transport Justine Greening, is located a minute"s walk away from a new train station providing links to Stratford and central London.

EasyJet will officially begin commercial services from the site on 2 April, providing 70 weekly flights to nine destinations across Europe, including Malaga, Berlin, Faro and Amsterdam.

The airline has also confirmed a winter route that will link Southend to Geneva, providing a new travel option for skiers and snowboarders heading to Switzerland.

Commenting on the opening of the airport, easyJet"s chief executive officer Carolyn McCall said: "We are sure that its fast, efficient and customer-friendly terminal along with its great rail links to London will make it a popular choice with our passengers."
