Family And Friends Inspire Brits Holiday Choices
Family and friends inspire Brits" holiday choices by Cheap Flights Booker UK
Recommendations from family and friends are the leading source of inspiration for Brits deciding which destination to visit on their next holiday, according to a survey by Abta.
The travel industry association commissioned a YouGov poll which found that 45% of consumers are inspired by ideas from those close to them when planning a break.
Travel company websites and brochures (36%) emerged as the second biggest generator of holiday ideas, followed by television programmes and films (16%).
Nearly two-thirds (65%) of consumers said they do not think the government should spend money on trying to influence destination choices, following the launch of a £4m advertising campaign encouraging Brits to take a UK break this year.
Abta chief executive Mark Tanzer noted that Britain offers some "fantastic events and places to visit", but said it was unnecessary for the government to spend so much taxpayer money on reminding people about the Queen"s Jubilee and the Olympics.
He added: "British holidaymakers should be free to make their own choices and enjoy the variety the world has to offer without government interference."
Abta also disputed the idea that taking a holiday at home is better for the UK economy than going abroad.
