Princess Cruises this month experienced a record day for bookings for a new ship"s inaugural season, ahead of the launch of Royal Princess in the Mediterranean next year.

Currently under construction, the 3,600-passenger vessel will debut with a seven-day sailing from Southampton to Barcelona departing on 16 June 2013.

It will then embark on a series of 12-day voyages from Barcelona to Venice.

Passengers will encounter a number of new features onboard Royal Princess, including an expanded atrium area and a glass-bottomed enclosed walkway on the top deck extending nearly nine metres beyond the edge of the ship.

The majority of the liner"s staterooms will offer balconies, while entertainment options will include the Movies Under the Stars poolside theatre.
