Top actor joins Emirates-sponsored film competition by Cheap Flights Booker UK

Emirates has announced that critically acclaimed actor Michael Fassbender has signed up to participate in the Your Film Festival competition, which was launched by the airline in partnership with YouTube.

The contest invites directors, producers and writers from around the world to submit a 15-minute, story-driven film to a dedicated YouTube page before 31 March.

Scott Free, the production company of esteemed director Ridley Scott, will select 50 semi-finalists in the summer, after which ten finalists will be chosen based on a public vote.

The final ten will travel to Italy with Emirates in September 2012 for their piece to be screened at the 69th Venice International Film Festival, where a jury including Scott and Fassbender will decide which entrant should receive a $500,000 (£315,000) grant to work on a new film.

Fassbender said he was "delighted" to confirm his participation in the initiative.

He added: "I"ve worked with incredible storytellers before and am excited to help find the next great one through Your Film Festival."

The Venice International Film Festival will be part of the 2012 Biennale, which will showcase art, architecture, dance, theatre and more in the Italian city later this year.
