EVA Air set to join Star Alliance by Cheap Flights Booker UK

Taiwan-based carrier EVA Air is set to join Star Alliance, a group of international airlines that already includes the likes of Swiss, US Airways, Air Canada and bmi.

The association"s executive board unanimously accepted the application of EVA Air as part of its long-term strategy to expand its network and provide access to regions with potential for growth and development.

Star Alliance chief executive officer Mark Schwab said the Taiwanese airline is a "very good fit" for the group and will add several new routes to its portfolio, particularly in the expanding Far East market.

Commenting on the move, EVA Air chairman James Jeng said: "We look forward to significant synergy in both service enhancement and expansion of our customer base.

"In addition, our partnership with Air China makes the Star Alliance especially attractive to us."

The process of integrating the airline into the group will now begin, with Air China acting as a mentor.

EVA Air operates flights to about 60 destinations, including Kaohsiung in Taiwan and Surabaya in Indonesia, which will be among the new additions to the Star Alliance network.
