Hospitality chain Marriott International has announced a plan to double its number of hotels in the Caribbean and Latin America in the next five years.
The company currently offers 69 properties in this part of the world, including recent openings such as the first Ritz-Carlton Reserve in the Americas at Dorado Beach and the Courtyard by Marriott at Mexico City airport.
By 2017, Marriott International expects its portfolio in the region to encompass more than 140 hotels providing some 30,000 rooms either open or in the pipeline.
Thirty-five properties are signed and under development, including Ritz-Carlton establishments in Aruba and Panama City, the JW Marriott Cusco in Peru and the Renaissance Santiago in Chile.
Arne Sorenson, president and chief executive of Marriott International, said Latin America is "booming" in terms of economic growth and political stability, leading to a "promising business climate".
"Worldwide, we"re seeing a golden age of travel and Latin America is at the forefront," he added.
