Muppets to boost New York"s family appeal by Cheap Flights Booker UK

New York City has recruited the Muppets as official ambassadors for the destination in an attempt to boost its appeal to the family market.

In a year-long collaboration, the popular comedy characters will highlight the various sights, dining and shopping venues, cultural institutions, attractions and other experiences on offer to families visiting the Big Apple.

Mayor Michael Bloomberg announced the new partnership at a tourist information centre in midtown Manhattan, where he was joined by Kermit the Frog, Miss Piggy, Gonzo the Great and Pepe the King Prawn.

Mr Bloomberg said he was proud to enlist the help of these "key family experts" to promote the five boroughs at home and abroad.

Kermit, arguably the Muppets" most popular and iconic character, commented: "New York is a great place for families, frogs, pigs, bears and … uh, anyone else to visit."

"We can"t wait to show the world the best ways to hop around the city!" he added.

The initiative is part of an ambassador programme that has resulted in family visitation to New York increasing by more than 14% since 2009.
