New Zealand Rail Service To Focus On Tourism
New Zealand rail service to focus on tourism by Cheap Flights Booker UK
New Zealand-based train operator KiwiRail plans to change its service between Wellington and Auckland to turn it into an "internationally recognised tourism product".
Due to launch on 25 June, the new transport option will replace the Overlander, which currently operates daily during the summer and three days a week in the winter.
A number of changes will be introduced to boost the service"s appeal to tourists, including new purpose-built carriages, a viewing area, revised menus and shorter journey times.
Deborah Hume, KiwiRail"s general manager of passenger services, said the launch of new carriages will be "key" to revitalising the North Island rail link and attracting more guests, both international and domestic.
"We know with new carriages and a completely new product, the North Island rail service between Auckland and Wellington has the potential to be a great travel and tourism experience," she added.
Trains will operate three times a week from both cities and will stop at Hamilton, National Park, Ohakune and Palmerston North stations.
