Russia Set For Tourism Boom
Russia "set for tourism boom" by Cheap Flights Booker UK
The next four years will bring an "inbound tourism boom" for Russia as a result of sporting events taking place in the country, according to World Travel Market (WTM) research.
A report released at the WTM Vision Conference in Moscow predicted that visitor arrivals in the nation will climb by 20% between now and 2016.
Several competitive events will be taking place in Russia over the coming years, with the World Athletic Championships and the Rugby Sevens World Cup due to be held in Moscow and the University Games being contested in Kazan in 2013.
Sochi will play host to the Winter Olympics in 2014, before Russia holds one of the biggest sporting occasions in its history, the Fifa World Cup, in 2018.
Visitor numbers are expected to peak at more than 28.3m, with significant increases coming from European source markets such as the UK, Finland, Poland and Turkey.
Simon Press, WTM director for Reed Travel Exhibitions, commented: "Russia will be showcased to the world with the hosting of all the major sporting events taking place, this being the perfect opportunity to highlight Russia as a tourism destination."
