Titanic exhibition opens in France by Cheap Flights Booker UK

Travellers visiting France this year will have the opportunity to see a new permanent exhibition in the northern city of Cherbourg that tells the story of the Titanic.

The €3.3m (£2.7m) display is based in a 2,500 sq m space at La Cite de la Mer, occupying the site of the former baggage hall of a terminal building from which 281 passengers boarded the ill-fated ship during its penultimate stop 100 years ago.

Visitors can explore three themed areas, the first of which features interactive displays highlighting the excitement of passengers about to board the Titanic.

The second section shows what life was like on the ocean liner, with reconstructions of areas ranging from luxury cabins to the tight spaces of third class, while the final part focuses on the investigation of the sinking and how the disaster was covered by the press.

Several events have taken place in recent weeks to mark the 100th anniversary of the sinking of the Titanic, including the opening of a dedicated museum in Belfast.
