Birmingham Airport highlights potential of Asia flights by Cheap Flights Booker UK
Birmingham Airport has highlighted its potential as a base for flights to Asia, challenging BAA"s claims that capacity must be increased at London Heathrow if the UK is to create new air links with China and other countries in the Far East.
Representatives from the West Midlands base, including chief executive officer Paul Kehoe, recently travelled to the region for the Routes Asia conference and met a number of airlines.
Discussions covered topics such as strong levels of trade and demand for direct flights from Birmingham to the Far East.
The airport also noted that the British city in which it is based is twinned with Guangzhou in southern China.
Mr Kehoe said: "Our runway extension will allow aircraft to fly direct from China, bringing investment to the region, and giving airlines and passengers an alternative to battling with London"s congestion problems."
The chief executive called on the UK government to endorse the airport in its aviation policy review later this year.
Birmingham is currently served by major international carriers such as Air France, Emirates, Lufthansa and KLM.
