Hotel Reopenings To Help Revitalisation Of Christchurch
Hotel reopenings "to help revitalisation of Christchurch" by Cheap Flights Booker UK
Accor is set to reopen two of its four hotels in Christchurch, a move it states will "fast-track" the revitalisation of the city following the earthquake that occurred in February last year.
The company, which is New Zealand"s largest hotel group, plans to reopen the Hotel Ibis in September before its Novotel property begins welcoming guests again from April 2013.
Decisions regarding Accor"s All Seasons establishments in Christchurch are still pending owing to accessibility issues.
Both the Ibis and Novotel hotels are relatively new - having been built in 2007 and 2010 respectively - and were constructed to standards that prevented them from sustaining too much damage during the earthquake.
Zayne Boon, Accor"s regional manager in New Zealand, said they will effectively be brand new properties when they reopen.
He added: "There is a critical shortage of accommodation in Christchurch and the reopening of these hotels will allow significant progress to be made in reviving Christchurch"s commercial and tourist fortunes."
The city"s revitalisation has also been helped by the launch of temporary and permanent shopping precincts and the return of businesses to the area.
