Londoners Delaying Trips Until After Olympics
Londoners "delaying trips until after Olympics" by Cheap Flights Booker UK
Many travellers based in London are planning to remain in the city while the Olympics are taking place before embarking on trips after the Games, new research suggests.
Technology provider Amadeus and market research company Forward Data released a report indicating that departures to any destination from the capital during the period just before the Olympics" opening ceremony are 5% down on last year"s levels.
However, three weeks after the Games" closing ceremony, outbound trips are expected to be 10% higher than at the same time in 2011.
During the whole summer period from 2 July to 2 September 2012, 2% fewer Londoners will leave the city than last year, according to the research.
The study suggested that travel to London will experience a year-on-year increase of 13% this summer, providing a "significant opportunity" for local companies and tourism businesses.
Holger Taubmann, senior vice president of distribution at Amadeus, said: "The data … indicates another period that will be of crucial importance to UK-based travel sellers: the weeks after the closing ceremony, when many Londoners will depart from the city."
