Rough Guides reveals 30 favourite places by Cheap Flights Booker UK

Travel publisher Rough Guides has revealed its favourite worldwide destinations in celebration of its 30th birthday.

The company published a list of the top 30 places across the globe based on the opinions of its writers, editors and staff members.

A number of long-haul hotspots were recommended, including Tokyo in Japan, which provides a fascinating urban setting for photography enthusiasts to explore, according to Mark Thomas, Rough Guides" senior picture editor.

Rob Coates, author of the Rough Guide to the Caribbean, highlighted the "raucous street life" and samba clubs of Lapa in Rio de Janeiro, while travel editor Emma Gibbs said her favourite place is Luang Prabang in Laos.

The list also included some locations that are closer to home for Brits, such as Belfast in Northern Ireland, Borrowdale in Cumbria and the Somerset Levels.

Travellers considering a trip to north Africa were encouraged to see Marrakech in Morocco, while people exploring the United States can follow recommendations to visit Palm Springs in California and New Orleans.
