Seychelles Sets New Visitor Record
Seychelles sets new visitor record by Cheap Flights Booker UK
The Seychelles proved a popular holiday destination in April, with visitor numbers reaching a record high during the month.
According to statistics released by the Seychelles National Bureau, the island nation welcomed just over 20,000 guests last month, marking a 5% increase on April 2011.
During the first four months of this year, more than 69,600 people travelled to the destination, representing year-on-year growth of 8%.
The positive trend was partly attributed to promotional efforts by the Seychelles Tourism Board and trade partners to boost the profile of the islands and diversify their appeal.
Commenting on these initiatives, Alain St Ange, the local tourism and culture minister, said: "We are happy that the foresight of the tourism board and their pro-activeness is bringing positive results for Seychelles."
Europe remains the islands" largest source market, with three-quarters (74%) of visitors coming from this region.
The six biggest individual markets for travel to the Seychelles are France, Germany, Italy, Russia, South Africa, and the UK and Ireland.
