BAA Airports Showed Resilience In May
BAA airports "showed resilience" in May by Cheap Flights Booker UK
BAA has said its airports were resilient in the face of ongoing economic turmoil last month.
Commenting on the latest passenger traffic numbers, chief executive Colin Matthews described the performance of the operator"s five UK airports amid challenging conditions as "encouraging".
More than 9.3m people passed through BAA"s airports in May, down just 0.1% compared with the same month last year.
The company said traffic in May 2011 was boosted by the late Easter and the royal wedding, while this year"s passenger numbers were affected by the late May bank holiday moving into June.
However, passenger traffic at Glasgow Airport rose by nearly 10% and Aberdeen posted an increase of almost 16%.
Despite expressing satisfaction with the figures, Mr Matthews warned that the eurozone crisis is still having an effect on the air travel industry.
"The UK needs to urgently build better links to the countries whose economies are growing such as China, India and Brazil," he said.
In April, passenger traffic across BAA"s airports increased by 0.1% on the corresponding month in 2011.
