Demand For Air Travel Continues To Grow

Demand for air travel continues to grow by Cheap Flights Booker UK

Demand for flights around the world is still rising despite continuing economic issues and challenges in some regions, according to the International Air Transport Association (Iata).

The group announced global traffic results for April showing that total passenger demand rose by 6.1% year-on-year, which is above the 20-year trend.

Combined with limited expansion in airline capacity, ongoing demand for air travel resulted in aircraft load factors reaching 79.3% in April 2012, a new record for the month.

One of the biggest growth areas last month was the Middle East - a region served by carriers such as Etihad Airways, Emirates and Qatar Airways - where passenger demand climbed by 16% year-on-year.

Looking at specific countries, Iata revealed that Japan experienced the strongest traffic increase of 27.8% in April, but this was distorted by the effect the earthquake and tsunami had on the country"s figures last year.

Iata director general and chief executive Tony Tyler said the growth in passenger markets is "encouraging" but stressed that airlines will find it difficult to turn it into profit as a result of high oil prices and economic uncertainty.
