Emirates has underlined its support for Sri Lanka"s tourism industry by opening a new lounge at Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA), the main gateway to the island and the city of Colombo.
Speaking at the launch of the facility, Tim Clark, president of the airline, said the development will provide a further boost for the company"s offering in the region and also improve BIA.
The carrier also expressed its optimism about the prospects for growth in Sri Lanka"s tourism sector.
"I understand that more international hotel chains are building in Sri Lanka and that the tourism infrastructure is being upgraded," said Mr Clark.
"Sri Lanka will therefore progressively attract tourists from the more affluent segments."
The new lounge offers amenities including 58 leather armchairs, a dining venue with space for 54 people, an outdoor terrace overlooking the airside area, showers and Wi-Fi access.
Emirates offers similar services at its hub in Dubai and other destinations including London Heathrow, Manchester, Hong Kong and Sydney.
