Heathrow launches initiative to boost efficiency by Cheap Flights Booker UK
An initiative has been launched at London Heathrow to increase efficiency, reduce delays and improve flight punctuality at the airport.
The Airport Collaborative Decision Making (A-CDM) system allows partners including airlines, ground handlers, air traffic control workers and other staff to share accurate information about the status of inbound and outbound flights.
Each journey will be given a life cycle comprised of 16 stages, showing the progress of aircraft as they come in to land, complete a turnaround and depart again.
This approach will allow operational staff to calculate more accurate timings and possibly reduce delays by cutting taxi times.
Automatic alerts generated if an aircraft looks likely to miss its slot will also make it easier for the airport to deal with potential hold-ups and disruptions.
Tim Hardy, airside director for airport operator BAA, said it is "crucial" for Heathrow to enhance the passenger experience by improving operational efficiency.
"A-CDM is about more than technology, it"s about behaviour change," he added. "It relies on every area of the airport"s operations working collaboratively to share information in pursuit of this common goal."
The London hub is one of the first European airports to fully implement the system, along with Paris Charles de Gaulle, Munich, Frankfurt and Brussels.
