Mobile Apps Transforming Aviation Industry
Mobile apps "transforming aviation industry" by Cheap Flights Booker UK
The ever-growing importance of mobile applications within the travel industry is changing the way airlines do business, new research suggests.
A significant majority (93%) of carriers now see providing mobile services for passengers as a top investment priority over the next three years and 58% will be putting money in to major programmes, according to the 14th annual SITA/Airline Business IT Trends survey.
An additional 35% of aviation operators polled said they are investing in research and development.
The study predicted that almost nine out of ten airlines will provide key services such as check-in, boarding passes and flight status notification via mobile by 2015.
SITA chief executive officer Francesco Violante said: "This year"s survey shows how airlines are committed to mobile across the whole business.
"Mobile apps are being used to improve the passenger experience, reduce operating costs and generate revenue."
The research also discovered that nine out of ten airlines will be investing in social media over the next three years.
