Sculptures unveiled at London City Airport by Cheap Flights Booker UK

London City Airport has enhanced the experience on offer to its customers by creating an art space in its security pre-screening area.

The venue showcases an installation of 12 bronze sculptures that were commissioned specifically for the site and serve as a metaphor for the passenger journey through the airport.

A business traveller is depicted gradually morphing into an aircraft, with hands and feet becoming ailerons and a jacket turning into wings.

Along with new display screens and facilities for members of the public to dispose of liquids, the artworks represent a significant investment in London City"s security infrastructure.

The airport revealed that the initiatives have helped to reduce average security queue times to less than two minutes.

Melanie Burnley, director of terminal services at the base, said: "We"re delighted with the statues that Mel Chantrey (a Turner Prize nominee) has created for us - they"re not only striking pieces of art, but will also help guide and channel passengers through this space."

Several major carriers are based at London City, including British Airways, KLM, Lufthansa and Air One/Alitalia.
