Tourists invited to see new sections of Great Wall of China by Cheap Flights Booker UK
Authorities in Beijing have confirmed that new sections of the Great Wall of China are to be opened to tourists.
The move is in response to growing demand and the increasing number of visitors to the famous landmark.
Kong Fanzhi, leader of Beijing"s cultural relics bureau, told the Xinhua news agency that the Huanghuacheng and Hefangkou sections of the wall will be opened, while the Mutianyu and Badaling stretches will be extended.
It is hoped this will reduce congestion at locations that are already open to the public, such as Simatai and Juyongguan.
"These Great Wall sections are overloaded on weekends and holidays," the local authority spokesman explained.
The wall stretches for nearly 22,000km, 600km of which is situated in Beijing and is in good condition, making it a highly popular tourist attraction.
A recent survey discovered new sections of the ancient structure that were concealed by bush or obscured by higher walls.
