US Travel Association Welcomes G20 Focus On Industry
US Travel Association welcomes G20 focus on industry by Cheap Flights Booker UK
The US Travel Association has welcomed a move by G20 leaders to recognise the importance of the travel and tourism sector as a provider of jobs and economic development.
For the first time, travel was included in the Leaders Declaration issued at the conclusion of the latest summit of the world"s biggest economies in Mexico.
Roger Dow, president and chief executive of the US Travel Association, said the G20 leaders - particularly Presidents Obama and Calderon of the United States and Mexico respectively - should be applauded for recognising the "vital role" the industry can play in the global recovery from the financial crisis.
"Policies that facilitate travel facilitate economic growth," added Mr Dow.
"In the US alone, travel supports 14.4m jobs and has an economic impact of $1.9 tr."
Earlier this year, President Obama announced a national strategy for the US that included a target for the country to attract 100m international visitors each year by the end of 2021.
