The prime minister of Poland, Donald Tusk, has encouraged travellers to seek out some of the diverse attractions and experiences available across the nation.
As part of the build-up to the Euro 2012 football tournament in Poland and Ukraine, which gets underway this Friday (8 June), Mr Tusk wrote a letter discussing what his country has to offer visitors.
He noted that football fans going to see matches will be welcomed at new stadiums in the cities of Warsaw, Poznan, Gdansk and Wroclaw.
The letter, which was published in the Guardian and other European newspapers, also highlighted sights and activities awaiting holidaymakers exploring the rest of the country.
"There are many more reasons to visit Poland," wrote Mr Tusk.
"Apart from our legendary Polish hospitality, you can discover many attractions that are still off the beaten tourist track."
The prime minister gave examples such as the Great Masurian Lake District, the bridges and canals of Wroclaw, Gdansk"s Hanseatic architecture and the "vibrant and modern" capital Warsaw.
