Etihad Airways has announced that it will further extend its international network in September with the launch of flights to Cape Town from its base in Abu Dhabi.
The city will be the airline"s second destination in South Africa and its fifth on the African continent, joining Johannesburg, Khartoum, Cairo and Casablanca.
Due to get underway on 30 September, the new flights to Cape Town will operate via Etihad"s existing daily connection to Johannesburg.
James Hogan, chief executive of the airline, said: "Etihad Airways is committed to expanding its flight network across the world and we are delighted to add flights to Cape Town to our schedule from September.
"In the coming 12 months demand for flights to South Africa will grow immensely, especially with the 2010 Fifa World Cup next summer."
Etihad has added a number of international destinations to its network this year, launching flights to Melbourne, Chicago, Larnaca and other cities from Abu Dhabi.
