Eastern Europe "best for Christmas bargains" by Cheap Flights Booker UK

Eastern European destinations such as Prague, Warsaw and Budapest are ideal for travellers hoping to bag some bargains during Christmas market trips this year, according to Post Office Travel Services.

The organisation conducted research which found that Prague was the cheapest city of all for a basket of eight typical Christmas gifts, with the overall cost 9% lower than in Paris.

Warsaw and Krakow in Poland will also offer good value for British visitors this Christmas as the pound currently buys 6% more zloty than a year ago.

With regards to general living expenses, the Post Office found that Budapest is the most affordable option, with a cost of £25.40 for an evening meal for two and four drinks.

According to Sarah Munro, head of Post Office Travel Services, it is important for travellers to do some research before picking their destination.

She added: "Sterling continues to move up and down on a daily basis against the euro but the eastern European currencies - particularly the Polish zloty - have remained weak and this means that Christmas shoppers can get the most for their money in cities like Prague, Warsaw and Budapest."
