Qantas Reveals Plans For Airports Of The Future
Qantas reveals plans for "airports of the future" by Cheap Flights Booker UK
Qantas has announced an initiative entitled Airport of the Future, which will see check-in procedures improved at a number of its bases across Australia.
Speaking at the National Aviation Press Club, Qantas chief executive Alan Joyce confirmed that the scheme will begin next year.
Members of the airline"s Frequent Flyer programme will have cards embedded with an electronic chip, turning the item into a personal boarding pass that is linked to a permanent bag tag.
Travellers will then have to swipe their card at a reader before dropping off their bag or heading straight through security to their departure gate or lounge.
Non-frequent flyers are also expected to benefit from the changes through quicker bag-drop services and more hosted kiosks.
Mr Joyce said: "The first stage of our Airport of the Future initiative will help eliminate queues for our customers.
"It will commence in Perth and will be followed by Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide and Canberra."
He went on to say that, while most of the processes will be simple, the security checks behind them will remain "solidly in place".
