"Madeira is a small, rocky island in the sea opposite Porto Santo, so watersports are very important, whether it"s fishing, waterskiing, sailing, or messing around in boats, there"s a lot to do," she said.

The Portuguese island was recently hit by floods, an event that could have a positive effect for visitors this year as local companies and operators are reducing their prices to encourage people to return.
