ACI Europe recognises continent"s best airports by Cheap Flights Booker UK

Airports Council International (ACI) Europe has announced the results of this year"s Best Airport Awards programme.

A judging panel of respected independent experts was formed to decide the winners in four different categories, with candidates being grouped on the basis of annual traffic.

Barcelona was named the best airport handling more than 25m passengers, winning praise for a number of new facilities that have been opened in the past year.

The base in north-east Spain was also commended for its investment in environmental initiatives and collaboration with disability groups.

Manchester took the top award in the 10m-25m passenger section, with the jury saying that the airport has the ability to "add real substance" to all of its projects.

The UK gateway also won support for its approach to security.

Lyon airport was named the leading hub handling between 5m and 10m travellers per year, while Malta International was recognised in the 1m-5m passenger category.

ACI Europe counts more than 400 airports in 46 different countries among its members.
