Skiers planning a trip to Canada during the 2010-11 winter season will be able to make use of a number of new facilities.

The Canadian Tourism Commission highlighted a range of additions to the resorts of Banff and Lake Louise in the province of Alberta.

Sunshine Village will offer a new Dopplemayr quad chairlift that has been installed to replace the 35-year-old triple chair.

First used at the Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games earlier this year, the new lift will provide easy access to a number of green and blue runs, improving the skiing and snowboarding experience for beginners.

A major renovation at Hidden Ridge Resorts in Banff will be completed in time for the 2010-11 season, providing new amenities including a range of suites with private balconies, a hot tub and panoramic mountain views.

The resort of Mt Norquay just outside Banff will be hosting some special celebrations this year to mark its 85th anniversary, while the Winter Festival of Wine will return to the Sun Peaks resort in British Columbia from 15 to 23 January 2011.
