Alsace memorial set to prove popular for Remembrance Day by Cheap Flights Booker UK
The Alsace Tourist Board has revealed that a memorial in eastern France is expected to attract a high number of visitors over the coming weeks in the lead-up to Remembrance Day on 11 November.
Alsace-Moselle in Schirmeck, south-west of Strasbourg, is "one of the most poignant reminders" of the wars and conflicts that have taken place in Europe during the last 140 years, according to the tourism agency.
It is located on a site overlooking what was once a Nazi internment camp.
Eastern France is home to many places where visitors can pay tribute to those who died in the two world wars, such as "Le Linge", a battlefield situated 1,000 metres up in the Val d"Orbey in the Vosges mountains.
There are also several medieval villages that were caught up in the fighting, such as Kaysersberg, Ammerschwihr and Kientzheim.
The Alsace Tourist Board highlighted a number of travel options for people planning to visit eastern France, such as easyJet and British Airways" flights to Mulhouse-Basel-Freiburg airport from Gatwick and Heathrow respectively.
