Travel surges in China during national holidays by Cheap Flights Booker UK
Travel in China increased by 24% during the country"s seven-day holiday that ended on 7th October, new figures show.
Official government data reveals that 5.75m trips were made during the week-long period, with the number of flights hitting 39,112, reports the state owned Xinhua News Agency.
According to a statement from the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC), the number of flights on 1st October , the first day of the holiday, topped 900,000 - an all-time record for a national holiday.
More than 95,000 passengers departed from Beijing Capital International Airport each day during the period, while over 100,000 passengers travelled from other major cities such as Shanghai.
The figures from the CAAC also reveal that the proportion of seat occupancy of flights (taking into consideration 52 cities in China) reached 81.49% during the holiday period - up by 13.1% compared to the same period last year.
Meanwhile, China Airlines and EVA Airways recently agreed to increase the number of direct flights between mainland China and Taiwan, including an additional 14 flights to Shanghai and four to Beijing.
