Tourism Ireland is launching a new campaign to promote the nation"s golf offerings, following on from Rory McIlroy"s victory at the US Open.

Chief executive Niall Gibbons said the Northern Irishman"s win has put golf in Ireland under the global spotlight.

There are golf courses the length and breadth of the country, from Royal Portrush in County Antrim to Ballybunion in County Kerry.

But Mr Gibbons insisted there is more to an Irish golf break than playing a round on one of these well kept sites.

"The combination of Ireland"s world-class golf product and our unique brand of hospitality plays a key role in attracting golfers to come here," he remarked.

Ireland is also gearing up for a number of top golfing events in the months ahead, including the Solheim Cup in September.
