The Museum of Liverpool was officially opened on the morning of Tuesday 19 July, with schoolboy Finn O"Hare doing the honours.
Located in a purpose-built landmark venue on the waterfront, the institution aims to reflect the city"s "global significance" in terms of its geography, history and culture.
It comprises attractions such as the Global City gallery, which looks at the important part that Liverpool played in the growth of the British Empire, and an interactive history and archaeology resource centre.
Visitors can also see Kicking and Screaming, a film that takes viewers on a journey through the history of football in the area, focusing on the heritage and success of its two biggest clubs - Liverpool and Everton.
Among the special exhibitions showing at the museum is East meets West, which explores the relationship between the English city and Shanghai.
