Air Berlin gets 50,000 Facebook "likes" by Cheap Flights Booker UK

Air Berlin is celebrating a social media milestone after receiving its 50,000th "like" on Facebook.

The airline has boosted its fan base on the website with an additional 30,000 members since the start of the year and received about 1,700 comments in August alone.

Members of the public have also uploaded more than 70 photos and six videos via the carrier"s page on the social networking platform.

Uwe Berlinghoff, Air Berlin"s director of corporate communications, said: "We use Facebook primarily as a communication channel. The Dreamliner"s German premiere, for instance, was posted live from the event.

"If flight schedules are disrupted, as was the case recently with the ash cloud or the threatened strike of air traffic controllers, Facebook has proved to be an excellent and fast way of communicating with our passengers."

The company marked its 50,000th "like" by launching a competition inviting customers to upload photographs showing why they are the carrier"s greatest fan.
