Australia voted British travellers" favourite country by Cheap Flights Booker UK

Australia has been voted the best nation to visit worldwide in this year"s British Travel Awards (BTA), with Spain and Italy picking up the silver and bronze honours respectively.

The consumer survey also included a section dedicated to city break destinations, which was topped by New York, Barcelona and Paris, while St Moritz in Switzerland and the French resorts of Val d"Isere and Chamonix were named the leading ski holiday locations.

Florida dominated the worldwide theme parks category, with Disneyland, Universal Orlando and Disney Magic Kingdom picking up the top three accolades.

Emirates was voted airline of the year and best business or first class carrier, while Virgin Atlantic also won two awards for its economy offerings and customer service.

The title of UK airport of the year went to East Midlands ahead of runners-up Edinburgh and Bournemouth.

More than 700,000 votes were cast to decide this year"s winners.

BTA chief executive Lorraine Barnes Burton said the accolades are "the benchmark for excellence when it comes to finding out who really is the best in the business of travel for the UK consumer".
