Staycation Trend Holding Firm, Says VisitEngland
Staycation trend holding firm, says VisitEngland by Cheap Flights Booker UK
The "staycation" trend shows no signs of abating, according to VisitEngland, which has released survey results indicating that seven out of ten people have either taken a break in England this year or are planning one over the coming months.
Hotels in London, Manchester and other domestic cities look set to see ongoing demand from Britons next year, with 70% of consumers planning a trip in their home country in 2012, according to the research.
More than four out of five (83%) respondents described their staycation experience as "excellent" or "very good" this year, while three-quarters (75%) gave the same ratings for both accommodation and value for money.
While cost has played a part in the trend, VisitEngland also found that travellers are keen to discover parts of their own country that they have never seen before.
Half of the people polled said their domestic holiday made them feel proud of what their home nation has to offer.
James Berresford, chief executive of VisitEngland, said the emergence of the staycation trend in 2009 caused an increasing number of people to take notice of the experiences and attractions available on their doorstep.
"Although numbers are not quite at the unprecedented levels of 2009, people are obviously still very keen to holiday at home and take great pleasure in exploring new places as well as revisiting well-loved ones," he added.
