Work Begins On Antiguas New Airport Terminal
Work begins on Antigua"s new airport terminal by Cheap Flights Booker UK
Work is underway on a new airport terminal that is expected to provide a major boost for tourism in Antigua and Barbuda, a twin-island nation in the Caribbean.
The extension to VC Bird airport is situated north of Saint John"s and is scheduled for completion in December 2013.
It will cover an area of more than 165,000 square feet and boost capacity for inbound travel to the destination with 26 check-in counters, 20 immigration desks and three jet bridges.
Passengers will also have access to a large retail space, a food court and a Wi-Fi service.
Commenting on the development, Antiguan tourism minister John Maginley said the local tourism industry has outgrown its existing terminal, with six or seven jumbo jets often having to be accommodated on the tarmac at a single time.
British Airways is set to provide a boost for the island nation by increasing the frequency of its flights from Gatwick to seven per week, while Virgin Atlantic has also been in talks about a future plan for UK travel to the destination.
