Tenerife to launch new tourism strategy by Cheap Flights Booker UK

The Tenerife island government has launched a new tourism strategy with the aim of boosting the destination"s profile and attracting more visitors over the coming years.

Announcing the plans, tourism minister Carlos Alonso said the local authority will focus on regenerating areas that are popular among holidaymakers, introducing product innovations and working more closely with industry partners.

Tenerife will also have a more visible web presence as a result of new promotional campaigns due to be launched in the near future.

"In terms of promotional activities, we will implement more online initiatives and boost our presence in social media," said Mr Alonso.

The announcement followed the release of statistics showing that 2011 was a record year for tourism on the island, with UK visitor numbers increasing by 10.6% from the previous year.

More than 1.6m Britons travelled to destinations in Tenerife last year, marking the highest annual figure since the peak of 2008.
