Consumer Group Welcomes Plan For Lower EU Phone Charges
Consumer group welcomes plan for lower EU phone charges by Cheap Flights Booker UK
The news that mobile data roaming and call costs are likely to fall for travellers visiting the EU this year has been welcomed by Consumer Focus.
Members of the European Parliament have provisionally agreed a deal that will see caps placed on charges for downloading data and making phone calls in EU countries.
The plans will take effect from 1 July 2012 if they are ratified by the parliament as a whole.
Marzena Lipman, European policy manager at Consumer Focus, said: "Moves to tackle excessive roaming charges are really good news for anyone travelling in the European Union."
Ms Lipman went on to state that mobile and data charges have been "notoriously high for too long" and praised plans to open up competition in the market and lower price caps.
Consumer Focus also welcomed a possible initiative that will force providers to alert customers when they are nearing 50 euros" worth of downloads while travelling outside the EU.
