Canada events to mark War of 1812 by Cheap Flights Booker UK

In June 1812, the United States declared war on Britain by invading an area that is now Ontario and Quebec, starting a conflict that continued until the signing of the Treaty of Ghent in December 1814.

Visitors can learn about how this chapter in history had an effect on the culture, society and politics of the region.

Toronto is the setting for a number of commemorative events, including an exhibition at the Market Gallery about the Battle of York, which will run until 8 September 2012.

During the month of October 2012, Fort York on the west side of downtown Toronto will host a programme of activities including lectures, film screenings and family entertainment.

Travellers heading to Canada in the autumn can visit Niagara-on-the-Lake on 12 and 13 October to see a re-enactment of the Battle of Queenston Heights.
